Briefing for Professionals explaining Attachment

There is a lot of interest in the concept of attachment, which describes the bond between children and their parents or carers.  NHS Health Scotland has produced a briefing paper which provides an introduction to attachment theory and effective strategies to promote secure attachment. These approaches could potentially contribute to reducing health inequalities in the early years and the longer term.

The briefing covers:

-          what is attachment?

-          the development of attachment

-          attachment styles

-          the link between attachment styles and outcomes

-          strategies for promoting secure attachment in young children

The briefing paper is available on the NHS Health Scotland website

The information is relevant to staff working at all levels working with children and families to inform and increase understanding of the theory and practice of promoting secure attachment
