Curriculum for Excellence and oral health

Curriculum for Excellence (3-18 years) sets the expectation that health and wellbeing is the responsibility of all, therefore providing opportunities for working across-curriculum areas enabling educational establishments and partners the freedom to address oral health in the other curriculum areas.

As children enter early learning and childcare settings they are provided with opportunities to explore health and wellbeing (including oral health) and to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes that they will need for their health in the future. Encouraging children to participate in a range of activities which promote a healthy lifestyle and to learn about where to find health and resources to inform choices will continue to have a positive impact on developing the social skills, resilience and confidence necessary for learning.

The Childsmile Programme supports Curriculum for Excellence by promoting a holistic approach to healthy living and teaches children an important life skill.
