Definition of teenage pregnancy in Scotland

To reflect the data collected by ISD, teenage pregnancy is defined as all pregnancies by conception and outcome in under 20 women.   In terms of Government targets this is the age group that is considered at greatest risk of poor health and social outcomes following early pregnancy. There is widespread recognition in policy, among the workforce and in service provision that young women face a particular set of risks in pregnancy and parenting experiences when they are under the age of 20 unsupported.
