Description

Training service for professionals - see NCT website for more details. The type of training varies, including workshops for midwives to deliver effective antenatal classes, and workshops to help different professionals work together; members of Maternity Service Liaison Committee (MSLC) can attend a one day workshop to help them work together more effectively.

Antenatal Parent Education Classes

Description

Qualified antenatal teachers deliver the classes, usually during last 6 - 8 weeks of pregnancy. Classes are very interactive and there is lots of time to discuss things with teacher and make relationships with other parents-to-be. This leads to a great support network.

Title

Bumps and Babies

Description

Bumps and Babies is made up of two elements:

1) quarterly free magazine to anyone that requests it.

2) Bumps and babies social groups. Mums can attend at any stage of the pregnancy and post birth as well. It provides opportunities to socialise and offer peer support, and is delivered by an NCT branch volunteer.

Delivery method

  • Bumps and Babies groups organised by local branches can be held in people's homes or a community venue. Try to encourage community venues as mums tend to feel more comfortable there.

Title

Telephone Helplines

Description

Three helplines staffed by qualified counsellors by are available; one for breast feeding and a ‘pregnancy and birth line’ where you can talk about any issues to do with pregnancy or giving birth. The service is offered 365 days a year from 8am -10pm. There is also a postnatal helpline where parents can ask questions about life with a new baby.
