Screening in pregnancy as part of antenatal care

In Scotland all pregnant women are eligible for screening. Information on pregnancy screening is provided to women at an early stage in their pregnancy (ideally at the first point of professional contact). A woman’s decision to accept or decline the screening tests is recorded in her maternity record, but, irrespective of her decision, she will continue to receive the full range of normal pregnancy care.

Revised public information leaflets including Your guide to screening tests during pregnancy  have been developed to support individuals to make an informed choice about whether to have the screening tests offered in pregnancy.

A regular supply of these leaflets can be requested from local NHS boards and translations and alternative formats will also be made available from the NHS Health Scotland website.

To support parents with learning disabilities the CHANGE resource My Pregnancy, My Choice is regularly updated with information about the screening programme.
