Early years policy and strategy recognises pregnancy as a crucial period in which the groundwork for the future outcome of a child can be laid. For this reason, teenage pregnancy is considered an area in need of focused support from the workforce and through the provision of tailored services. Both the health service and the voluntary sector offer important support for teenage pregnancy and parenthood. The educational sector also has an important role to play. It is important for early years practitioners to consider teenage pregnancy holistically, looking at the multiple factors that can influence it (both positively and negatively) and play a role in its outcome.
