The role of the early years workforce in parenting support

The early years workforce plays a critical role in developing and providing meaningful support for parents in the early years including during pregnancy and immediately after birth. Supporting the development of parenting skills and emphasising the importance of bonding, attachment and attunement from birth is the responsibility of all members of the workforce including health practitioners.

Within the voluntary sector many organisations provide crucial training, advocacy and support for parents and children as well as professionals such as helplines, peer support and practical training.

Parenting Programmes, summaries and evaluation results of parenting programmes can be found on the National Academy for Parenting website.
