The Scottish Public Health Observatory (ScotPHO)

The Scottish Public Health Observatory (ScotPHO)  and website provides up-to-date evidence and statistics on public health in all areas of Scotland apart from Glasgow. For information on Glasgow see the Glasgow Centre for Population Health. This includes commentaries on data sources as well as localised data in the form of Community Health Profiles.

Health and Wellbeing Profiles have been produced for Health Boards (April 2014 boundaries), local authorities and (where data permits) intermediate zones in Scotland.  They can be accessed through  the ScotPHO online profile tool.  The profiles comprise of 56 indicators of health and the wider determinants of health. They are designed to:

  • Provide organisations and communities with up-to-date and locally relevant public health intelligence
  • Highlight health and social inequalities
  • Show trends in key indicators
  • Provide local information for targeting resources and setting priorities
  • Develop knowledge of the complex nature of health and its determinants.

These profiles inlcude specific indicators on women and children's health.
